Omihachiman (Part 1)

                                   Omihachiman (Part 1)

One of the places I often visit recently is Omihachiman in Shiga Prefecture, leaving Kanazawa for a while. It attracts me so much because once I step in,

I feel like jumping back to the Edo, Meiji and Taisho eras all at the same time. Ancient well-known Omi-merchants in the Edo period and an American architect who came to live in Omihachiman for teaching English in the Meiji era are behind the scheme. It is certainly traditional white-washed store houses standing along with Hachiman-bori moat and exotic western buildings whose roofs are made of red-bricks with impressive chimneys on top that really make me feel retrospective. These are all the works by the said wise persons. Let’s see the appealing spots one by one.
